John R. McCarthy has been a key player in the commercial real estate market in the Westchester/Fairfield region for over 40 years. Prior to establishing McCarthy Associates Inc. in 1990, he was a Senior Vice President and Partner of Rostenberg-Doern Company, Inc. in White Plains, NY and Stamford, CT. Mr. McCarthy was Managing Director of Westchester and Fairfield Counties for Jones Lang LaSalle from September 2005 to June 2007.

Previously, Mr. McCarthy was an International Sales Representative for the Leisure Products Division of AMF, Inc in White Plains, NY. He also held sales and marketing positions at Marsh & McLennan Company in White Plains and New York City and at Reuben H. Donnelly Corporation in New York City.

Mr. McCarthy has handled transactions totaling more than 37 million square feet of space in his career as an owner and tenant representative. He represented clients such as Morgan Stanley, with the purchase of the 725,000-square-foot former Texaco corporate headquarters in Purchase, NY. He represented MetLife for 12 years as owner’s agent for 821,000 square feet at White Plains Plaza and closed a 340,000-square-foot transaction with Prodigy Services Co. He currently represents Jackson Lewis, PC as their national real estate advisor. Other major clients represented by Mr. McCarthy are Apple Computer, Smith Barney, O’Connor Davies PKF, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, MasterCard and Empire City @ Yonkers.

Mr. McCarthy is a partner and founding member of Abbey Road Advisors, LLC, a real estate investment company based in Fairfield, CT.

A lifetime White Plains resident, McCarthy is active in several business and community organizations. He is Past President and a Member of the Board of Stewards of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in Westchester County, Chairman of the Fund-Raising Committee for the Great Hunger Memorial, a founding member and Treasurer of the White Plains St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. In 2000, McCarthy was Grand Marshal of the White Plains St. Patrick’s Day Parade. He is past president and honorary member of the Exchange Club of downtown White Plains, a former Trustee of St. Agnes Hospital Children’s Center, and is a former Treasurer of the Loucks Track & Field Games Committee, as well as a member of the Westchester Sports Hall of Fame Committee.

In addition, John is currently Chairman of the Board of Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains and a former member of the Advisory Board of Trustees at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison and the Advisory Board of the Lighthouse in White Plains. He also served on the Cardinal’s Committee of the Laity in Westchester and was President of the Archbishop Stepinac H.S. Crusader Men’s Club. He was on the Board of Directors of the CORE Network, a national affiliation of commercial real estate firms. John was a member of Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck and a former member of the Board of Directors and a past president of the Club. He is a member of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY and a former member of the Board of Governors.

John and his wife, Cathy, have two sons Kevin and Michael, and 4 grandchildren.
